Fun stuff to do in North County - FREE Aromatherapy Class at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa

by Michelle Harvey on 02/22/17

I am planning to start discussing cost effective things to do in North County that are family or couple friendly.  To kick it off, I wanted to write about a FREE opportunity at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa.

Omni La Costa Resort and Spa

I haven't personally experienced this class yet, but I have been fortunate enough to visit the Omni. My experience there was amazing. I was given a gift card from a happy client for the full spa treatment (Jason and I even had a couple’s massage)! Lucky us! I have been looking for an excuse to return and my friend, Kris, might just have the perfect one. Kris is a massage therapist and a holistic health practitioner. She is teaching a FREE Art of Aromatherapy course every Thursday from noon to 1pm at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. There is no need to sign up or make an appointment for the class. When you get there, just sign in at the spa front desk. Easy! Learn about the use of essential oils in every day use and the healing benefits of aromatherapy all while in this serene setting of the Spa. They will also be giving away some fun freebies as well! You are also welcome to stay for lunch at the spa café after the class ends.

Kris, your expert on aromatherapy

Top 10 places to get Donuts in North County (San Diego)

by Michelle Harvey on 02/12/17

Serious donut business going on. I visited Yelp to find the #1 spots in North County where you can get donuts. I definitely have my personal favorites but it was neat to find out what was most popular on Yelp. What are your favorite places to get donuts? Did any of your favorites make the list?
TOP 10 places to get Donuts (as found on Yelp)
Cardiff - VG Donut and Bakery. I am pretty sure most of you have either heard of VG's or have experienced the delights, not just limited to donuts, that they offer. Perfect place to grab a donut and enjoy the scenic views with a drive, or walk, on the coast.
Carlsbad - Super Donuts. I haven't had the good fortune to try this place. Lots of good reviews have convinced me that I need to give Super Donuts a try!
Del Mar - My search directed me to nearby areas but nobody directly in Del Mar. The nearest #1 location was in Solana Beach (see below).
Encinitas - Leucadia Donut Shoppe. I haven't been here yet but look forward to a visit in the near future. Can't wait to try it! Most of the people also commented that it offered some of the best coffee in North County as well!
Escondido - Peterson's Donut Corner. I have been here and I have sampled what over 1000 people have voted as the #1 spot for donuts. Some of these donuts were more like a small cake than a donut! Very good but bring your appetite! ;) You have been warned. I feel I have to mention the #2 spot because it is one of my all time favorite places I go to when I am in the area. It is Savoy Donuts and definitely worth a visit too.
Fallbrook - Donut Pantry. Alright my Fallbrook friends, I haven't had the chance to check this place out but will be sure to remember this donut stop next time I am in the area.
Oceanside - Chow's Donuts. So, this is rated #1 but upon further reading (from a few reviewers) it looks like it is a family owned business that is in danger of closing down due to competition from a larger chain possibly being opened in the same strip
mall. Regardless, I am excited to try this donut shop and support local business owners.
San Marcos - Crispy's Donuts. In additional to their wonderful donuts, this place offers something called a Cronut and is quite famous for them. Can't wait to try it!
Solana Beach - Solana Donut House. All it took was for me to see a picture of a guy holding a donut bigger than his head and I was convinced that I need to visit this place!
Vista - Danny's Donuts. I might be a bit partial, ok a lot partial to Danny's and not because they are less than 5 minutes from my home office. This place is #1 in Vista and #1 in my heart as well. Plus it is right next to Peppertree which has been a downtown staple in Vista for decades. We love the donuts so much that we ordered about 100 to make a donut cake for my son's birthday party. Good stuff!
